League/Tournament Site Coordinator

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:  The MDSL offers a variety of leagues and tournaments throughout the year for ages 6-17 years old. The on-site supervisor is responsible for preparing the game site, starting the games on time, returning game site to the condition it was found in at the termination of the last scheduled game and monitoring other sports tournament staff. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to apply. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DUTIES:

  1. Prepare site every game day for game play in a safe environment.
  2. Conduct proper pre-game meeting with selected officials/ and league/tournament partners/site staff.
  3. Start and end games at scheduled times.
  4. Responsible for timekeeping and scorekeeping of games.
  5. Direct games in compliance with established league and tournament rules.
  6. Maintain friendly, positive relationship with players, coaches, site staff, league/tournament partners, park/facility staff, concession vendors parents and spectators.
  7. Responsible for the safety and general welfare of the league/tournament and participants.
  8. Complete and submit accident and incident reports to tournaments and events coordinator in a timely manner.
  9. Return game site to same condition as it was found at completion of last game.
  10. Perform additional responsibilities/other duties as assigned by tournaments and events coordinator. 
  11. Adhere to the utility cart guidelines. 
  12. Supervising other league/tournament staff and keeping them on task. 
  13. Attend all required staff trainings. 
  14. Keep in contact with league/tournaments and events coordinator throughout event.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  1. Knowledge of current rules of soccer and the ability to interpret them.        
  2. Ability to understand and interpret specific tournament rules and facility procedures.
  3. Ability to schedule and reschedule games due to inclement weather, team no-show, official no-show, etc. 
  4. Ability to communicate with parents, spectators, players, staff, officials, park and facility staff and league/tournament partners.
  5. Ability to deal with sometimes-difficult individuals.  
  6. Ability to supervise and, when necessary, gain control over the game.
  7. Community CPR and First Aid certification desirable.
  8. Coaching and/or sport specific official certifications desirable.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
Site Supervisor:

  • Significant background in participation, teaching, coaching, scorekeeping or officiating in specific sport.  
  • Prior experience working as sport or recreational activity assistant preferred.
  • Coaching certification, CPR and First Aid certification preferred.    

RATE OF PAY: Contingent – salary commensurate with experience
Site Supervisor: Minimum wage-$20.00/hour (Professional).

Game Day Operator

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:  The MDSL offers a variety of leagues and tournaments throughout the year for ages 6-17 years old. The Game Day Operator works with the Site Coordinator and is responsible for preparing the game site, starting the games on time, returning game site to the condition it was found in at the termination of the last scheduled game and monitoring other sports tournament staff. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to apply. 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • A minimum of one year of previous experience as a game day operator is required.
  • Must have proficient-to-advanced knowledge of the respective sport.
  • Excellent verbal and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within the rules of the sport
  • Public address announcer requires expressive but clear and controlled vocal skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES

•The Athletic game day operator will fulfill essential responsibilities related to MDSL league and tournament competitions.

•Typical responsibilities include public address announcer, scorekeeper, scoreboard/game clock/shot clock operator (for Futsal), taking photos and videos, and posting on social media.

•Reading pre-game announcements at designated home athletic events.

•Introducing the National Anthem (if necessary)

•Reading player introductions (if necessary)

•Reading in-game announcements of game events and scripted announcements during stoppages of play.

•Reading half-time announcements including game statistics and promotional events.

•As directed by the supervisor, providing announcements to the crowd during the game to ensure a safe, appropriate atmosphere for home athletic events.

•Playing prepared music via electronic device during pre-game, in-game, half-time and post-game.

•Keeping an accurate scorebook.

•Tracking individual player and team statistics for home athletic contests (if necessary).

•Working with game officials to ensure a fair contest as it relates to the scorebook and player participation.

•Maintaining the official team rosters of eligible players and substitutes.

•Reviewing suspension lists and verify the eligibility of each player prior to the beginning of the game.

•Ensuring the visible scoreboard reflects the accurate score (for Futsal only).

•Inputting team names and pre-contest warmup time on the clock.

•Inputting the game score throughout the contest on the applicable scoreboard.

•Keeping time by starting and stopping the clock according to the rules of the game.

•Maintaining the accurate time, score, quarter/half/period, and game statistics on the scoreboard.

•Being an extension of the officials.

•Controlling an end line and sideline as it relates to the rules of the game.

•The execution of game day operations.

•Event staff operations.

•Inspection of athletic facilities prior to the home contest to ensure conditions for athletes, coaches, officials and spectators are safe, clean and playable.

•Informing supervisor of facility issues.

•Managing of half-time activities and promotions.

•Greeting visiting team upon arrival to HWS, showing them to their locker room, athletic training room and contest site.

•Coordinating parking and security operations.

•Confirming visiting locker room schedule for contest with supervisor.

•Greeting officials and ensuring completion of any required payment forms.

•Assisting with planning special events or ceremonies at contests.

•Problem solving of on-site issues.

RATE OF PAY: Contingent – salary commensurate with experience
Site Supervisor: Minimum wage-$15.00/hour.
