I. Overview

The MDSL Memorial Cup is a Classic (lowest bracket) to Mid-Level Travel (highest bracket) soccer tournament designed to close out the Spring season in a competitive and family-friendly environment.

This event welcomes boys and girls teams U-8 through U-19, providing an excellent opportunity to test your team’s progress while celebrating the holiday weekend with teammates, friends, and family.


II. Application & Divisions

III. Playing Levels

The MDSL Memorial Cup offers divisions for Classic to Mid-Level Travel teams:

1. Classic Level (Lowest Bracket)

  • Typical leagues: MSI Classic, SAM, URSL, and other county-based travel leagues.
  • Teams generally consist of competitive non-recreational players not yet playing full travel soccer.

2. Entry-Level Travel Teams

  • Teams transitioning from Classic competition into Travel level play.
  • Typically compete in Divisions 5–7 of leagues such as EDP or NCSL.
  • Limited out-of-area travel.

3. Mid-Level Travel Teams

  • Competitive travel teams with strong tactical and technical understanding.
  • Typically play in Divisions 3–4 of EDP, NCSL, or comparable leagues.
  • Travel regionally for competition.

All players must have a valid USYS or U.S. Club Soccer player pass or an official roster from their state or an MDSL-accredited league.


VI. Check-In & Credentials

Online Check-In (via GotSport):

All teams must complete check-in online by uploading the required documents:

  • Player passes
  • Approved roster
  • Signed MDSL Team Waiver

Roster Requirements:

  • State-affiliated teams: Upload USYS or U.S. Club Soccer roster & cards.
  • Non-USYS affiliated teams: Must provide a roster from an MDSL-accredited league, such as:
    • MDSL
    • MSI Classic
    • SAM
    • URSL

VII. Competition Details

  • Game Format: All matches follow US Youth Soccer rules with MDSL modifications.
  • Number of Games: Minimum of 3 games guaranteed (weather permitting).
  • Tiebreakers: Determined by goal differential, goals scored, head-to-head results, and fair play points.
  • Awards: Champions receive trophies and medals; Finalists receive medals.
  • Venues: Games will be played across premier facilities in Montgomery County, MD.

VIII. Team Requirements

  • Players must have matching uniforms with unique numbers.
  • Teams must carry player cards and medical release forms at all matches.
  • No mixed sanctioning bodies (e.g., US Club + USYS combined rosters).
  • Guest players are allowed in accordance with USYS/US Club tournament rules.

IX. Sportsmanship & Conduct

MDSL promotes a positive and respectful playing environment:

  • Coaches are responsible for player, parent, and spectator behavior.
  • Negative conduct, harassment, or referee abuse will not be tolerated.
  • Teams violating conduct standards may face disciplinary action or removal from the event.
