Maryland Developmental Soccer League completes its first Saturday of games

The MDSL kicked off in a successful manner with the launch of its first weekend of games this past Saturday. Held at the Sandy Spring Friends School and hosted by the Sandy Spring Soccer Club, the MDSL is a program for U-6 – U-12 players who are transitioning from soccer classes/recreation, and are on the path of playing travel soccer. The U-6 – U-8 league is the most popular of the age groups because it gives the children the opportunity to play vs. others outside of their clubs and in most cases, this is the first time.

We asked a handful of the kids who participated in the league for the first time this past weekend and although names are not allowed to be mentioned due to their ages, one said, “I had a great time playing soccer. It is so fun to play against other kids my age.” Another said, “It was so fun to score alot of goals, I can’t wait to come back next week.”

The MDSL prides itself on being a league that gives the game back to the players and provides the platform to learn how to play the game correctly. Although the league can’t dictate the methodology that is taught at each of our participating clubs, the rules set forth in the league like the build out line helps players to develop quicker.
